Robert Castelli has won the special election for 89th District in the State Assembly, beating out current County Legislator Peter Harckham (D) by a convincing margin.
Castelli's victory tonight continues a trend of strong showings from Republican candidates locally (and nationally). The 89th District has swung Democrat for some time; the seat was held by Democrat Adam Bradley who served from 2003 until January when he left to become mayor of White Plains.
Turnout included about 13,000 voters. As of this post, 108 of 110 voting districts had reported results and Castelli led with 55 percent of the vote. His lead with numbers still coming in, was over 1,000 more than his opponent. Castelli lost election to the same seat, after facing Bradley in 2004.
