Manhattanville student death a homicide, police say

A female Manhattanville student was found dead this afternoon at the Purchase campus faculty and administrative housing. Harrison Police are calling it a homicide.

There are few details about the incident available at the moment, though police called it an "isolated incident" and said there was no cause to think that safety at the campus is compromised.

The student was apparently the daughter of a Manhattanville College employee - the family lived at housing on the campus.

College President Molly Easo Smith posted a statement on the school's website as follows:

"We are shocked and saddened by the death today of one of our students, whose family has been part of our community for many years. Our hearts go out to all who have been touched by this loss.

We want all of you to know that the campus is safe and secure and that this incident is an isolated one. The police have assured us of this.

We are cooperating fully with the police investigation and will share more information as we are able to do so. We are working to provide support and assistance to all members of our community at this time.

The Vice Presidents and I will be at dinner in the cafeteria and we will see students at the previously scheduled monthly town hall meeting this evening, so that we can speak directly in reassurance as we await further information from the police."
