This week Republican Tom Giordano and Democrat John Santos declined their nominations, paving the way for incumbents Steven Ecklond (R) and Stephen Quigley (D) to cruise to re-election without formal opposition. It is the second year in a row that elections are uncontested in the village, a major turn around from several years prior where Tuckahoe was known for heated and intense campaigns and photo finish results.
Both major parties held caucuses on Jan. 26 and each nominated two candidates. Both Giordano and Santos are members of the Zoning Board; neither of the political newcomers were in attendance at the caucus. They had officially declined last Friday and the parties had until this past Wednesday to offer replacement candidates. Neither party offered replacements.
More on this story in next week's edition of The Town Report.
